Hypocrisy!

“Hypocrisy is the necessary burden of villainy; afeectation; part of the chosen trappings of folly; the one completes a villain, the other only finishes a fop. Contempt is the proper punishment of affectation, and detestation the just consequence of hypocrisy.”
No man can be called as hypocrite in his pleasures. Like, an alcoholic’s advocating temperance, would not be considered an act of hypocrisy as long as the alcoholic made no pretence of constant sobriety.
Being pretentious about having what you really do not possess falls under Hypocrisy. It is desiring to “appear” rather than to “be”. A hypocrite leads a life that is fake and built on a hollow base.
Most often it is said that the most terrible form of lies is not the one, just uttered, but the one, lived. And the latter goes on to tag the hypocrites.
It is not easy to “be” and to “continue” being a hypocrite for your inner conscience and your inner values always shout out loud enough to lower your hypocrisy and make you deaf of the unrealistic world you build for yourself.
According to Shakespeare, “One may smile and smile and be a villian still.”
That was a brief and compact line that shrinked away all the above discussion.
It is not about “AFFECTATION” but about “PRETENCE”.
